One neat sideline of getting to travel around with my job is the opportunity to learn the history of my region of the state. The Jaketown Site, located near Belzoni, is a collection of Native American mounds that once constituted a center of population. The site is believed to have been occupied for almost 3000 years, ending almost 500 years ago. Indian mounds are scattered all over the Mississippi Delta, some barely visible to untrained eyes because they appear to be simple landforms.
