EMT Extrication Night
Tonight we took our EMT students out for their hands-on automobile rescue class. This is always a highlight of the semester for them, and for us as instructors. By this time, they've been through almost three months of classroom lecture, and they're itching for some outdoor experience. Like every other class, it's always enjoyable to watch them learn over the months. For the most part, we don't hear much from them after graduation. But a few keep in touch, or work locally. While watching them grow in class is nice, the real reward comes from watching them grow in the field. I've always said that we can teach them what an EMT needs to know, but they learn "how" to be an EMT in the field.
